I am all warm and happy form the explosion of the Buffyverse gratefulness all over my friends’ list. I wasn’t sure if I should do one as well, because I am in danger of repeating everything that was listed before me, but then I decided “so what?” I tried to pick up scenes that were not talked about it yet, but it was not always possible.

Those are not necessarily scenes I love the most, or consider best scenes ever, but they stick out and made love these series and miss them once again.

1) The Oedipus Rex as performed by Buffy, Willow and Xander.

An extremely ridiculous and generally out of place in a school talent show, it nevertheless illustrates perfectly what Buffyverse is capable of and ties neatly with many future storylines (“there should be a play”). And the way they put it with the credits, as afterthought…

2) The end of Becoming II. Probably, the whole montage starting with the fight between Buffy and Angelus and ending with Buffy leaving Sunnydale. Heartbreaking and powerful, and I cannot help but cry for Buffy and the choices she has to make.

3) VampWillow walking the streets of “our” Sunnydale in Doppelgangland, lost and disoriented. I know it is not the greatest scene ever, but again, after the way we were lost in The Wishverse several episodes before, they show VampWillow who is lost and pathetic and tries to get home, and I feel for her even when I know I shouldn’t. plus, a great character study for Willow.

4) “I’ve forgotten how a sword in the chest hurts.”

Anya’s fight with Buffy in Selfless. She, as a demon, is a mighty and capable warrior. We can see how easily she can deflect blows and how skillfully (and in her own fighting style) she can strike. She is ready to fight with all that she has, yet she doesn’t want to win this fight.

5) The wheelchair fight. (End of Days)

A perfect companion to the previous point. One of the things you never expect at that point of the story, and then come to realize that they make a perfect sense then and there.

1) The fight in the daylight in HLoD.

Their last fight as enemies, a fight that showcases their strengths and weaknesses, and the way they both know and use them against each other. Also, that they didn’t kill each other at that perfect opportunity.

2) The Intervention kiss

I cannot miss it - A very honest scene between those two, and a very honest and openhearted kiss.

3) The stairs scene in After Life

It is all in what they don’t say to each other here. They barely talk, especially Buffy, but it is a moment of a tentative, half-realized connection for them.

4) The destruction of the building in Smashed.
Hot? Duh! Wrong? Oh yes. Right? Very much so. (Have you noticed how laconic I am? I am trying to work here, too.)

5) The basement scene in the Chosen.

I think I love this scene more than the last one. The domesticity at the edge of imminent death, the easiness, the talking, Buffy’s ideas about oil and championship, Spike’s jealousy work-out and humbleness, the way Spike and Buffy tuned in each other, and the way Buffy was absent-mindedly stroking sleeping Spike’s hand… All of it for me works not as end, but as a beginning – of just life that could happen if.

Following the better examples I played with my layout. Nothing fancy, but I changed the background picture and colours, and you can see it here and criticize me. :)

I think I'm going to have to do this meme - but not now - tomorrow. I really like your choices. *sighs over Spuffyiness*

Oh, and I like the layout! :)

Hehe. I loved that scene. And Snyder's reaction. So funny.

Great list. And I'm definitely agreeing with the B/S fight in HLoD. That just doesn't get enough love!

Snyder’s reaction is priceless, isn’t it?

And HLoD deserves all love – so much fun in one episode! And B/S fight is one big cherry on top of it.

Anya-love! Yay! She just doesn't get enough love in my opinion. Her character was not only just as funny as the others, but she could make my heart break exactly like Buffy and Willow. I will always be chockful of the Anya-love.

And hey, your layout is so, so pretty. :-)

I love Anya very much, and I agree that she doesn’t get fair treatment in fandom. In my view she is often either perceived as comic relief of white-washed as a poor victim of mean Scoobies, when her story – going in the background, sure, as it is Buffy’s show - her own story is powerful, and touching, and heart-breaking in its own right.

Glad that you loved the layout!

I love your list (and your new layout)! I especially like the "Oedipus Rex" scene -- that was such a wonderfully weird little moment.

Such little touches salvage otherwise bland episodes in Jossverse, don’t they?

Anya’s fight with Buffy in Selfless.

One of my absolute favorite example of editing in the series is the cut from Anya blissfully singing in her wedding dress to Anya impaled with a sword in her chest. That fight with Buffy is a great scene.

The basement scene in the Chosen.

I almost chose that one too. Such a beautiful, sweet scene.

I'm glad you did this meme! And I love your new layout!

Yes! And the way the song stops abruptly – so heartbreaking.

The list turned out fun to do, and I was happy to come up with not yet mentioned scenes I love.

Glad you liked my layout – now I am trying to make an icon with a ship for it. ;)

Oh, what a wonderful list! This meme really is the ultimate nostalgia trip.

The domesticity at the edge of imminent death

You put that so very beautifully. There's my Buffy and Spike - two people leading extraordinary lives, who could somehow always find their normality in each other's company.

It so is! I was reminded of so many brilliant moments in these days!

I agree, and this is why I think they could can have a future together. ;)
Also, see Buffy’s face on my icon: Wee!

Oh I love your moments. I loved all of Chosen, but that basement scene between Spike & Buffy just says so much about their relationship - like you said, the domesticity at the edge of imminent death. Sigh.

Yes, I think that scene in the basement speaks volumes about Spike and Buffy and their relationship - in a very short time they covered a lot, they are not necessarily communicating everyhting right, but they are communicating which is more than I can say about the previous B/A scene.
