I haven’t posted much recently, and it feels weird. I should be writing more, but I felt kind of blah, and tried to finish my story – which is dragging through a very painful place, and goes by a sentences in an hour. Plus, I want to do something more obviously useful, like making a plan, and stuff. Oh, well. To be completely honest, I wrote two entries, but didn’t post them, and now they are outdated, so you’ll never know what was there.

In the more amusing news: we have our TV channels back, and even more. Perseverance do magic with cable people (or, may be, perversity? – may be they couldn’t imagine someone living without TV?)
We used the return of TV to watch Euro-2004 semifinals and the final – for some reasons, semifinals were translated with Italian commentaries, but since we both knew what’s going on on the field, it just added a nice flavour. Gollo grandiozo! (what’s not to understand?) I wonder what’s happening in the Greek-populated places here in Toronto today.

Friday evening I spent with Latino girls in a restaurant. Since we are not just a group, but a university club, we have some money from the school to spend on our club needs. So we did. The dinner was very nice, but again, I was the only one who didn’t understand Spanish. I mean, even our waiter spoke Spanish! But when our talk got to the Latin American soup operas I could actually say something on topic. (it was all about how stupid they are, how fake the acting is, how silly the plots are, how they are part of the culture, and how nobody is watching them, especially Mariana de la Noche on channel 35) ;) No, I don’t watch it, really – Spanish, remember? – but in Russia it was fun to watch them back in University when we had to study instead.

And, finally, happy belated Canada Day for everyone this side of the border, and happy Independence Day for everyone that side of the border!

but I felt kind of blah

That must be going around, because I've been feeling blah lately too.

may be they couldn’t imagine someone living without TV?

Hee! They realized that living without cable was too cruel!

I don't watch Latin American soap operas either because I don't speak Spanish, but whenever I flip past that channel on the TV, everyone looks very glamorous! And Dramatic! Something important always seems to be going on! They're kind of fun to watch even without knowing the language!

I think it is a common feeling in LJ recently (blah...) ;) After heated debates about Angel and fanfition, and everything else, people succumb to summer apathy.

And the Latin soup operas - they are too over-the-top, but funny if not take them seriously.

Ahh, Latin American soap operas are in the league of their own. I used to watch some episodes with my grandmother when I'd come back from school (early 90s). When my cousin moved in with us for several months when I was in 7th grade, our favorite procrastination activity was to sit inf front of the TV and make fun of the soaps.

Do you by chance remember the Brazilian one, Rabynya Izaura? I think it was one of the first ones.

Not only I remember poor Izaura (I would be happier if I didn't -- ), but I asked Karin from Brazil about it, and she knows it, too.

We actually had a meaningful discussion of soup operas. So much fun!

Oh dear, I would probably recognize the theme song if I heard it, but I really would rather not.

Latin soaps cross boundaries and bring people together. And give us plenty to talk about.

I think I slept better without listening to honking concerts, but tomorrow I am in the Portugese part of the city...
