In this article I was more amused by the definition of "above 35" as older women. I am not there yet, but I will be 35 in several months, and I cannot consider myself a granny type. I am more like 8 year old in my mind ;)
As for piracy... I do it. I spend what I can on books, and I look for legal ways to acquire books first, but sometimes, they don't work - if I need something in Russian, in most cases the easiest way is get it from a "not quite legal" online library. In many cases there are no legal versions at all, in some, well... if it is there, I might as well save it on my comp.
I do get annoyed when people start act as if it is their natural right to read everything for free, and as if the authors owe them for reading their books.
Yeah 35 is a pretty low number to define someone as an older woman. I'm going to be 30 this year and I don't consider myself old - much like you I'm still a kid in my head! :D
I agree with you on piracy as well. I justify it if I already own the physical copy of a book (and just want a digital back-up), or if it's a book that's not available to me normally. I still buy a lot of books though (although I'm keen on sales), and I think pirating the odd one to see if I like the author isn't much different than borrowing it from the library. If it was a phenomenal book I'll still purchase it after the fact to support the author. If it was middling it would probably not have been one I would have purchased to begin with. Still, I'd say that 90% of my books are purchased (or digital copies of physical books). I sleep easy at night. :D
