Movies 2009
Jan. 17th, 2010 05:07 pmI didn't watch a lot of new movies the past year, and the ones I watched were mostly from DVDs. We are not comfortable with leaving D with a babysitter, and people we know and trust live too far away.

Since it is the biggest talk of all, I'll start with it. I watched in a movie theater - obviously. (P stayed with D) The visual is stunning, the actors are fine, the story is meh. Nothing fresh to say, but I did enjoy the experience, mostly because it cheered me up a lot to see Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Michelle Rodrigez on screen so much. And pretty flying mountains were really pretty.
Star Trek
Liked it a lot. Now I finally am watching The Original Series. I am a backward person from Another World.
Terminator Salvation
Horribly boring stuff. Except for Sam Worthington. Terminator without Sarah Connor is wrong in principle.
Twilight
Fun cheese! Edward is a monkey: hee-hee.
Barbarella
It is not a recent release, obviously, but we've just seen it. I like that kind of cheese - it's unselfconscious, but doesn't take itself seriously, and seems almost innocent these days. I sincerely hope they won't do a re-make.
Watchmen
I haven't read the graphic novel. So I liked the movie, but I wanted to cut at least half an hour of monologues from it. I had more thoughts about it, but they are about the original story that I haven't read, and largely irrelevant in this time and space.
Couples Retreat
We went to see it together in a theater, since my mom was here, and it was an only one that looked interesting. It was nice. Jean Reno is always fun to watch and the rest of the cast was in their places. I notice how Kristen Bell moves into romantic and comedy roles in decent movies. I wish some other actress could move to such movies, and not to movies that no one ever sees.
Up
It is a good feature, but... What I really wanted was a movie about Ellie, not her worthy husband.
Transformers 2
I fell asleep during it several times, and every time I woke up I saw some transformers and running Megan Fox. P assured me I didn't miss anything.
Miss Pettigrew lives for a day
lovely fluff, great to see Frances McDormand in a lead role.
