The days like these one wonders whether the world has gone completely mad, and then realize that it's only a small part of it that just looks big. I am talking, of course about this case. I read with morbid fascination the growing list of celebrities who defend Polanski and with the happy excitement much smaller list of those who doesn't think that his being a good director allows him to rape girls.

I understand that some of they may feel coerced, afraid for their jobs, or not really knowing what the whole thing is about. But... I didn't know what the thing was about until I decided to learn. it took five minutes to find, and somewhat longer to read.

Or maybe it is a question of questions? Imagine the difference "Do you want to support the plight of an exiled artist against the all-powerful establishment?" against "Do you support the rape of 13-year olds? Would you like R.P. rape your daughter/granddaughter/etc?"

How many I wonder would sign the petition answering "yes" to the latter questions? words, words...

I am still waiting to hear from many movie folk. Silence doesn't help.

I've been avoiding the issue because I'm disgusted at the people supporting him. So Smith and Gaiman are being sane? Good for them, but expected.

That other list doesn't make me feel much better because that first list of supporters is SO MUCH FAIL. I still can't believe I'm seeing the names of some directors and actors I admired.
