trainwreck
Oct. 2nd, 2009 10:16 amThe days like these one wonders whether the world has gone completely mad, and then realize that it's only a small part of it that just looks big. I am talking, of course about this case. I read with morbid fascination the growing list of celebrities who defend Polanski and with the happy excitement much smaller list of those who doesn't think that his being a good director allows him to rape girls.
I understand that some of they may feel coerced, afraid for their jobs, or not really knowing what the whole thing is about. But... I didn't know what the thing was about until I decided to learn. it took five minutes to find, and somewhat longer to read.
Or maybe it is a question of questions? Imagine the difference "Do you want to support the plight of an exiled artist against the all-powerful establishment?" against "Do you support the rape of 13-year olds? Would you like R.P. rape your daughter/granddaughter/etc?"
How many I wonder would sign the petition answering "yes" to the latter questions? words, words...
I am still waiting to hear from many movie folk. Silence doesn't help.
