books are us

I think we've got ourselves a bookish baby. Which isn't that surprising at this point since he always sees his parents with books - when they are not with computers. We'll see how it will go later on, but I would love him to enjoy books as much as we enjoy them- and in two (or more) languages. Right now we have books in Russian and English and he loves them equally. I was pretty clueless about English kids' books, (well beyond Mother Goose and Dr. Seuss and many more books for older kids that I grew up on) so I relied on whatever strikes my or D.'s fancy. Library near our home proved to be invaluable. We would have been broke if we were buying all books that strike our fancy. Not to mention - covered in books. Most of the books D. disregards, but he really likes books with pictures of babies in them: human babies, animals babies are equally interesting to him.
He also likes dictionary-type books with pictures and words. Other favourites include:
Three little kittens - he likes showing how kittens cry.
Freight train by Donald Crews
Truck duck
Goodnight moon
We both are in love with two books by Emily Gravett: Monkey and me
and Orange, Pear, Apple, Bear.he actually started to call all fruits that are not banana "pear" and learned to say "bear" after it.
Sandra Boynton books didn't impress him so far.
We got to the point where every book should be read at least three times in a row. And, well, I read him until I got too bored, then I say "no more".
as for me - my latest read included Rainbows End that I cannot get through, even though I really want to. I hardly got through a half of it when I had to return in to the library, and I am seriously consider not to re-order it.
