BtVS watching: now again

I am listening the sqeees and non-squees about new and old TV shows, but what about myself?

I am watching the season 1 of BtVS - again, but this time with the husband.

He laughs, he wonders about Slayer's bosom, and he has a question. I am not qualified to answer since I am not North American.

So I am posting it here. Indulge me. ;)

How the dating patterns in this TV show correspond with the dating patterns in North America?

IMHO, it's pretty close. Only a couple things out of the ordinary come to mind:

1. Almost all the main characters have pre-marital sex. I'm not sure what the actual stats are in North America, but I think in the general populace there's more variety of opinion.

2. Buffy's long term boyfriends are approximately 9-10 years older than her: Angel is physically 26 when dating Buffy, age 16-18; Riley is probably in his late 20s, considering that he's finished college, grad school, is a fairly high ranking officer in the military, when Buffy is 19-20; Spike, I would guess, is around 30, though they never say, when Buffy is 20-21. That's highly unusual, and largely due to the fact that becoming the Slayer forced Buffy to grow up so fast.

Hm, i'd answer, but I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Care to elaborate?
