Waves happily to friends. Thank you, guys!

I guess I am one of the slowest typists ever. Plus I am too self-conscious about words I am using, so it usually takes me forever to write anything. Plus I am easily distracted and have a mess in my brain. Have you ever had these feeling that you have a lot of great intelligent thoughts, but when you are trying to catch any of them and, well, think it, they all skitter away? It is not so much herding cats as herding flies. I am writing my thesis proposal, but people of Buffyverse keep flooding my mind, so I’ve decided to try and post some of this stuff here. It is half-formed, yet I want to rid my brain of it to allow some space for serious thoughts.

This was bugging me for a while last season.

Here is thing: characterization of Dawn in Season 7.

After being a protected child, after being a neglected teenager she is… what is she? Nobody (but Andrew) mentions that she was a key. Is it over?
We are left to wonder.

What is she doing during the season?
She suddenly is all-purpose girl.
Buffy is training her to slay vampires, and not once Dawn proves that she is an able warrior (“Lessons”, “Potential”, “Chosen”).
She performs spell – in critical conditions (CWDP), so apparently she knew which spell to use and how to use it.
She reads in Sumerian (GID) and Turkish (“Empty Spaces”).
She discovers her kinship to Xander in being an ordinary person around superpowerful ones and holding her ground in it. (“Potential”). Ok, I don’t really know how to put it better.

So, Dawn has qualities we usually attribute to Buffy, Willow, Giles and Xander. Can it mean something?

Buffy: She's me. The Monks made her out of me.

The Gift

Willow: A slayer. Makes sense, I guess. Remember that thing about they share the same blood or whatever?

Anya: (shrugs) Yeah, I never got that.

Potential

But when did Buffy have such Giles-like language abilities? Or spell-casting ones?

Well, there was a moment – when Scoobies had joined to create a Superslayer in “Primeval”. The monks must have been making Dawn at this very time, so could they use the excess of whatever it was to create Dawn?

What does it mean for Dawn? Is she made from Willow, Giles and Xander as well as Buffy? What is she? New and improved version of Buffy? Normal girl? Watcher Junior (as she refers to herself in “Chosen”)?

May be the point is that nobody is supposed to know the answer yet, lest of all Dawn.

Actually, I don’t have a point. Just an idea that there might be a connection between joining of essences and abilities in “Primeval” and Dawn’s talents in Season 7.

And now back to thinking about copyright law in my corner.

Thank you for commenting.
But you are not staying in dithering forever - as we have lovely Many Roads to enjoy.

Dawn's being brings to many questions to mind. And we are left to ask them up to forever. Why, for example, the Knights were seeking to destroy the Key, and The Monks to protect it, if they both were trying to stop Glory?
And why nobody in Buffyverse never notices it? (I understand, they have their own problems, but still...)
