hiding in the house. Yesterday it was 108 F outside in the afternoon. When after 8 pm it lowered to 93 F (34 C) I considered it cool and went to walk the dog. It wasn't cool, but dry heat without actual sun was bearable.
Today is 106, and after a morning walk and swim, we are hiding in the house.
Sure, we could go to the ocean, or Belmont, or SF, but then we would have to get out of the house, and in the car, and we'll do it when it is not July 4th (Happy Independence day!) and there are less people going somewhere.
still better than NJ though
1) low humidity
2) at night temperatures drop, providing relief to all senses

Date: 2024-07-05 02:44 am (UTC)I remember 100 degree heat in Kansas - but it was also humid in Kansas. I prefer the East Coast.
Dry heat - hard to breath, for some reason.
Anyhow, hope it cools down for you - guessing you are in LA or SF area?

Date: 2024-07-07 08:28 pm (UTC)Now I live in the Bay area, East bay, about 1.5 hours drive to SF. Generally speaking, every city in the Bay area has it's one microclimate. 30 minutes drive will take you into entirely new weather. our city goes for a big difference between night and afternoon temperatures, which means, even in a bad heat wave we get some relief at night.
The dryness can be bad - i visited Arizona once for Christmas, so it wasn't even hot there, but it was genuinely hard to breathe, it was so dry.
anyway, I hope it will go down to more humanly bearable
