Disney + African American girl, whose name starts with “T” = Tiana, the heroine of “The princess and the frog”.
Or, you know, Tamara, from Once Upon a Time.
Since there aren't many other African or African American heroines in Disney fairytales, there is a strong desire to equate Tamara and Tiana. They both start with “T”, after all.
Is that plausible? Well, yes. Of course, we know so little about Tamara by now, that she can be anyone, but knowing that OUaT doesn't really have completely random people, well she must have some connection to some of Disney's properties or public domain stories, if not to Henry's ancestors.
What do we know about Tamara? She is of this, “our” world, she has some hidden agenda, and to achieve her goals she is willing to go very far. She is searching for magic, she is capable of killing magic-wielding people, and she is willing to kiss people to get closer. She also mentioned frogs at some point, talking to August.
What about Tiana? “The princess and the frog” is fairly new and not as widely known as older Disney stories, so I have to re-watch it, for research purposes.
So, Tiana is a regular girl from New Orleans. It is, of course, “disneyfied” New Orleans, but it is in USA, not in a Magical Kingdom or a Galaxy Far, Far Away. She is very poor, and she has a dream – to open her own restaurant. To achieve this she works hard, has several jobs, doesn't take time off, doesn't think of anything but her dream and the road to get to it.
Then she meets a talking frog who says he is a prince, and if she kisses him, he'll turn human and give her money for her restaurant. (he is planning to marry a different girl, a heiress). She reluctantly kisses him and turns into a frog herself. Then tries to get back to her human form, thinking about her dream.
The frog meanwhile is really the prince, pretty and useless who got turned into a frog by a voodoo witch doctor. So, Tiana's life got screwed by magic and she needs more magic to turn the situation around and get her dream (that by itself has nothing to do with either magic or love).
Does it fit into what we know about Tamara? Certainly. In no way it is a necessary conclusion, as we know very little about her, I can definitely imagine Tamara as a regular person who worked hard all her life to achieve something, only to have this something taken from her by magic, so she is now on a quest to get that back, maybe get revenge, and maybe prevent that from happening again. And to get it, she is willing to kiss some frogs and kill some people. The questions that remains: what did she lose, who screwed her up, and how did she got that fantastic taser?
