So here I am trying to get my life together in New York. Among other things I try to find some kind of social circle. For this I started using meetup.com. I've joined several groups, and went to several meetups. Some groups appear to be half-dead, Buffy group didn't accept me (Ha!), and some have meetups at inconvenient for me time
The most successful so far – Music for kids. There was a small group of kids close in age to D, and they had a lot of fun together.
I went to Sff group meetup, and it was ok, but it was help at a diner, so my communicative abilities were restricted to my immediate neighbours. And they mostly spoke about comics that I don't read, and TV I don't watch...
Yesterday I had a women's writing group meetup. It wasn't bad, and there was actual writing, but the whole feel was a bit too new-agey for my taste. And when a lady started crying while reading a story how she moved her furniture, I felt cold, wicked and cynical. I left with a strange feeling – a deja vu of sorts. Later, in subway, I realized what this meeting reminded me: Willow at the Wicca group meeting in Hush. Just without the bake sale.
