I think you are right - as Obama wants to be more radically left, so Harper wants to be more radically right that they could afford without losing too much of electoral support. Harper is an okay PM in a minority government, whereas I disliked him much more as an opposition leader.
Canadian politics are not boring of course for those involved, but the stakes are never that high. Even the corruption scandals seems tame - but I am glad that the scandals break out even about small corruption deals. It's healthier.
and the whole Belinda Stronach in politics story - if it were a novel, i wouldn't believe it :)
