Living alone I spent my evening catching up some TV watching. I finally watched Dollhouse from beginning to end. I finally watched Wonderfalls - only five years after they were canceled. I also watched The 10th Kingdom, having remembered about its existence out of the blue.

Well, Dollhouse is a weird TV animal. First episodes I found almost unwatchable and a waste of my and their time. Then it got better and better, and by the second half of the second season more and more frantic, which made me even more sorry for those first episodes. The worst of all that is not even the tricky and uncomfortable subject but that I found them too boring. It was hard to care about anything and anyone there. Then it got better. a little. The hardest of all was to care about the main character. It might have been Eliza Dushku, who grew into her role and on me by the end, it could be the story of Caroline and Echo that didn't quite worked for me. Victor and Sierra - them I loved and cared about, mostly due to the awesomeness of the actors. Again, strangely I cared slightly less about Priya and Tony, but loved that they got their happy ending that wasn't quite happy. Adelle and Topher ended up most interesting characters of the story and I enjoyed seeing them self-destruct and change. Plus, Topher got all the best lines in the series - it is no wonder that one fifths of the essays sent to Smart Pop essay contest were about him. If I were to write such an essay I would have written about Joss' obsession with evil geeks and mad scientist tropes. Overall, the whole thing is well worth re-watching, if I ever have time again.

Wonderfalls were wonderful and cheerful and whimsical - all just enough to keep them from being saccharine. I loved the characters, Jaye and her world, I loved the stories told, and I loved to see the buds of the stories that could have been told if not the cancellation.

the 10th Kingdom - it is kind of weird to review a ten-years old mini series - I liked but found some moments problematic. I watched it as as fast as I could, even skipping on much needed sleep and enjoyed the process. But "the surrender to destiny" theme. I kind of prefer when people do stuff because they feel it is the right thing to do, not because someone told them it is their destiny. The Evil queen should have been better written - so much potential! I also wanted to love the main character, Virginia, much more. There was something missing for me. But I still liked her well enough. And now I found that I am quite taken by her romance with Wolf, whom I considered mostly ridiculous while watching. Tony and the prince were all right, and I liked Troll king and his kids.

Now, since my mom is here, I can go to see a movie. But I cannot decide which one, so I am asking for your help:

I loved all those shows. Wonderfalls was way ahead of its time...

Wonderfalls really could have developed into something more noticeable, given time. It seemed to have at least two more seasons of stories already planted.
