I hate shopping. I mean I am not exactly adverse to wandering through stores, browsing through merchandise, picking up a thing that attracts my attention, figuring out if I can live without it, and leaving the store a happy owner of a new thing. This is all fine.

But when I actually need something particular, and soon, and I am racing the stores, hunting down that One Thing I really need to have right now… That’s terrible. Nothing fits, the only available sizes are not mine, and if they are mine the thing looks terrible on me anyway, and if by incredible luck it fits just right, I am in no way can afford it. Or it is made from an awful fabric like polyester. I have a distaste for acryl and polyester. Am I an elitist bitch? By the end of the day I am exhausted, and cannot see anything but red. My shopping companion annoys me as well as the universe. I buy the first thing I don’t have an extreme aversion to, because I cannot stand the thought of going to another store.

I have a lot of things to say. I even wrote down some of them. Maybe tomorrow.

Hugs to everyone.

Most of the time shopping for 'serious' things (clothes, home decor, etc.) is a nightmare for me. I question and doubt and make pro-con lists in my head and generally exhaust myself and those around me. My mother calls it 'shopping for a cow'.

Exactly. That's why I try to buy some things the moment I see them, and not when I need them. For example last year I 'stocked up' on sweat pants as these track/warm-up suits were still in style and there's a lot to choose from at the moment... who knows how it will be later.
Last spring I decided to splurge on a girlie dress, as it was a seemingly perfect time to get one (in terms of choice and availability). So all through the spring and summer I was on a relatively casual prowl, looking and scrutinizing and trying things on, but not exactly under pressure. And nothing 'called' to me. I'm still dress-less. So much for my casual shopping method.

I generally prefer to do the same - wait till the clothes I like show up in my life. I blame it on my Soviet Union childhood (it is a good thing to blame something on): there was no point of shopping for clothes mostly, so I would wear whatever happens in my life.

I hate it when I need something very specific to buy.

I'm not that fond of shopping either, usually when I go with friends to shop, I got tired after 2 or 3 items, while they're still looking shop after shop enthusiastically. But it sounds like yours was an especially bad shopping day! =(

It was not that bad, as really exhausting. The fact that I had to get up at 7:00 am didn't help, either.

This is why you need me with you when you shop. :D

I wish I could import you as my shopping advisor, Jonesie. [looks wistfully to the north] Sometimes I wish I had somebody really smart and savvy to tell me exactly what to get. Decision making issues, I know.

So I would be annoyed with you instead of my husband?

Or so I would find One Thing much faster, and we could spend the rest of the time happily chatting and drinking coffee?
