I feel like the most boring poster ever - tuning in to wish belated birthdays and going away to miss some more stuff.
Today's belated birthday wishes are going to
lisalamona and
treacle_a. I hope you have a wonderful year ahead!
We are sitting at home and enjoying a lazy holiday Monday. Well, I am also trying to create a poem for my creative writing class and husband does some work. Still, it's a very feel-good morning, turning into a feel-good afternoon.
Except for the poetry thing. I am coming up with a strange creature of English-Russian mess. The worst thing is that I need 250 words, which is too many for a poem - in my opinion. Poetry is economical, images, emotions and thoughts are distilled. I shouldn't have to add words...
Recent lucky find -
russkij_sever. Highly recommended to go and have a look - a community devoted to the Russian North, one of my favourite place on Earth. It is in Russian, but the best thing is the gorgeous pictures that you can enjoy without need to read anything there.
Yesterday we went to see Shrek the Third and
We didn't like it. It was not an awfully bad movie, but it was a boring mess of a movie. The plot was falling apart, and boring where we could see it. The twists and resolutions made no sense, the characters didn't do anything, and the whole mood was anti-Shrek, if anything. It was too touchy-feely and pretty and nice. I couldn't recognize my favourite ogres at all! There were some good scenes and good jokes, but given that I don't remember any of it now... they are not worth that much. Where the irreverent subversive humour I loved in the first two movies? Not to be found. I had high hopes for the princesses' squad, especially given the voice actresses, but they were wasted, and not in a good sense. Only Snow-white seemed to have any personality, and earned her place in the plot. Others... whatever. We had Cinderella and the Ugly Stepsister who didn't seem to react to each other in any way. The Sleeping Beauty was... well, sleeping, and Rapunzel lacked any motivation. I was hoping for some jokes on account on Fiona's pregnancy - a hot topic, if you know me, but no, it was all bliss, except for Shrek's worries. Booooring. The Arthur... Well, if you see one American teenager, you've seen them all. (I know I oversimplify - but not too much comparing to the movie) I know that here high school is the beginning and the end of life, but seriously - it is perfectly possibly to do something new about it, not just play dress-up party.
But the worst thing was that the story itself made no sense. Not in any way I tried to look for it. And all the characters actions seemed random, and all the turns - clichéd... Blah...

The Russian North looks so beautiful and almost other-worldly. Thank you for that link!
And the summer of "threequals" seems to have got off to a bad beginning...I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment but I wonder if it will go the same way as Spider-man and Shrek...

Date: 2007-05-23 12:49 am (UTC)re: movies. I have hopes for PIrates - that they will be at least equal to the second part, because they were filmed pretty much together and thought as a two-parter. I do hope that they will be good, too.
