I read long ago somewhere that Marguerite de Navarre once said that after thirty a woman should exchange the epithet "fair" for "wise". I have no idea whether it's true - I cannot find anything like that in the Internet, but it stuck in my memory anyway.

I couldn't quite agree with it, though. Up till now now I would immediately trade being "fair" to being "wise", and now - I want it both! I cannot give up "wise" for anything, and I am indignant at the idea to stop being "fair". ;)

other that this, I don't feel any different. It's a little bit weird to think of oneself as "30-years-old", but that's it. Besides, I know so many wonderful people this side of the brook, that I am quite happy to join them!

so far the day going great. I've got several nice surprises - mostly as the letters and cards I haven't expected to get. I've also got a card from [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna, and a card from [livejournal.com profile] gobi_rex, and oh so many lovely birthday wishes that made my day! thank you so much everyone!

My iPod had been dying for weeks until two days ago when it finally stopped working. I told my husband about its sad fate - and he produced a new one out of his hiding place! it's nano, and it's electric blue - which I was coveting for some time, but couldn't buy because to have two iPods is wrong. (isn't husband wonderful? answer:yes, occasionally)

btw, I suspect that it wasn't supposed to last much longer anyway - a nifty trick to make us buy more. a radical difference from a Soviet manufacture - which can withstand pretty much everything despite being ugly and inconvenient...

well, now I am a happy owner of a new iPod - and we decided that my birthday is a good reason to get TV cable, and start watching TV, like normal people. ;)

finally: can you recommend me new music? that would be nifty! thanks. :)

A very few steps brought her to the edge of the brook. `The Eighth Square at last!' she cried as she bounded across,

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * and threw herself down to rest on a lawn as soft as moss, with little flower-beds dotted about it here and there. `Oh, how glad I am to get here! And what IS this on my head?' she exclaimed in a tone of dismay, as she put her hands up to something very heavy, and fitted tight all round her head.

`But how CAN it have got there without my knowing it?' she said to herself, as she lifted it off, and set it on her lap to make out what it could possibly be.

It was a golden crown.
