avreliaI am supposed to be used to severe winters. So what? It doesn't make walking in –20 C plus chilly wind any more exiting. Well, I do think that winter should be with snow and temperatures below zero, I was missing it in Vancouver. Yet you know: wind sucks. Today is it nice enough actually, but yesterday I was telling myself: "Why did I what winter anyway? Was I out of my mind or what?"
Enough about the weather.
I am crazy re-editing my thesis proposal. Arguing with my husband about choice of words. What was I thinking, hoping to finish everything in December? Plus, I almost forgot about application to York University. I do not want there, not really, but it is supposed to be my back up plan. I am so have to send everything next week. Grrrrr...
Okay, about AtS 5.09
First: I didn't expect Spike leaving in this episode, of course. What about his reason? I get that he is too scared to face Buffy after their highest moment. Right now he can live with the memory of "I love you" as the last words she said to him. Meeting her again – it all can change. He can screw up, she can screw up. He is not ready to face her. Will he ever be? I actually agree that Spike should have something for himself besides Buffy. He is too focused on her. It is part of the charm, of course. But really – he has to find what he is doing here, why he is back, how to live after the big moment (remember Whistler, in Becoming I?), who he is now.
Second: I like the episode, it was fun, it had a lot of cool lines, it had camel, Harmony was delightful in her own way. Who would think? Fred/Harmony bonding – both of them need some female friends - was sweet, unexpected and weird.
Loved the scenes of inner life of W&H, all the office politics, rumours, etc. Interesting how AI team looked through their employees eyes. Angel is a terrible boss. Demon clans were lame. And I cannot make up any deep thought on a subject. I better post it and go read those smart people again. May be even comment.
Harmony did a research! Harmony was trying to figure out how she was set up for murder! – Harmony did more thinking in this episode than probably all her time on-screen before.
The smart people around there picked up a lot of cool parallels and metaphors. I didn’t, but I enjoyed reading about them and have incorporated them in my perception of the episode.
Another thing: do ME writers read fanfic? Or may be they have a special person in staff, who has to read fanfic, and then to outline trends, popular pairings, fanwanks, clichés, phases… because: “manwhore”? “Warm tinglies” at the sight of Spike?
Another another thing: seeing this episode helped me realize how I miss BtVS. Even average episodes. I guess I cared about all the characters much more than I can do here, although I like AI gang well enough.

Date: 2004-01-16 01:07 pm (UTC)I also loved the Fred/Harm bonding. Hee! Such a weird couple, but they worked well together. I hope they hang out more. And I loved seeing chicks fight again. That's one of the biggest things I miss about BtVS – kick arse women!

Now she is seeking this friendship, and looking for mutual benefits in it. It is amazing how Harmony grew up since she died. She alone screws all the initial vampire mythology of Buffyverse
