School libraries in our district...

I went to volunteer at the school library today, and learned that one of the proposed measures for budget cuts in the school district was to close ALL school library in the district. I have no words. It seems that it's not actually approved - for now, but hours are cut, the new elementary school that's going to open next year will be without a librarian, and other smaller cuts to services are implemented. I come to volunteer once a month, and I can see just how much our librarian does, and how there is not enough time to do everything - and help kids with the books. I spent an hour just dusting several book shelves - moving books back and forth. Cutting an hour of her paid time would be a major inconvenience for Everyone, and hardly worthwhile savings. (I have to admit, when she told me about closing all libraries, I actually laughed in horror. It seems such a weirdly dystopian move in the liberal woke Mountain View)
