Today is the anniversary of the end of the Leningrad siege – January 27, 1944. It is my own little piece of war – in the sense that it affects me more than any other, not only because my existence depended on it - my other grandparents’ families also suffered during that war, but because I felt much more connection to Leningrad and its people than to any other place. (It doesn’t change the fact that I am a Moscow girl though.)

So I mark this date and sit and think and remember. It grew much more important for me since my grandmother died – before I would just call her on this day and talk to her. Now, I feel it is up to me to keep the memory.

I wrote the last year about my family in Leningrad here.

Now I just add couple of mp3 files I found recently. They make sense only knowing Russian, but I post them anyway.
