Chance encounters

I love chance encounters – you meet people, share some bits of lives, have meaningful conversations, and then part your ways, possibly forever. I love making friends more, but there is a certain delight of having the small part of mosaic that makes up a person’s life.

Some guy I talked at a bus stop; a shoe master, repairing a heel on my friend’s shoe and talking about the purpose of the Universe while we were waiting; a lady from Ethiopia whose life was a reenactment of “Romeo and Juliet”, only with happier ending; a guy in RV who offered us hot coffee when we really needed it.

Yesterday it was a lady from Liverpool. We were going to see a friend – old for my husband, unknown yet for me. And we were to use GO train in the first time. We bought the tickets at the Union station, and were wondering at the customer service what should we do with them to get to Port Credit. At this moment this lady appeared (she overheard us), and said that she was going to Port Credit and would take us with her so we wouldn’t get lost. She brought us to the platform and into the train. Along the way we talked about Canada – in general, Ontario and BC, climate. We said that we are from Russia, she said she is from Liverpool; we said “Oh”; she said “Yes.” She elaborated that she did, indeed knew Beatles before they were famous and danced when they played in clubs. “Probably I should have grabbed one for myself when I could,” she mused, but then shrugged it off and said that she was quite happy to live in Canada since 1966, and having all her children and grandchildren here. We talked about working in a law firm, books, knitting (she was crocheting a fuzzy scarf in violet colours), and other stuff. Then we were at Port Credit, where her husband was waiting for her in a pickup truck. They decided that we would get lost unless they give us a lift, stuffed us in a truck, dropped us at our friend’s door, and disappeared.

If so, I'll probably write the others, too. ;)

I loved it myself and still smiling when thinking about it.

Chance encounters...beautiful stories! :D

isnt it so beautiful to have all these fortunate accidents happen in our lives? When we look back to those days we realize that not everything has been hardship and that life can sometimes be more interesting than we ever thought :)It makes me think that a lot of things happen for a reason even if at first i can't see it.

I've had chance encounters happen to me many times.I've met great friends that way too.Lately I've found myself having unexpected encounters with a person I met at an acting audition. At first It looked like a coincidence.I found myself thinking about said person and when I less expected it the person would cross my path.It got up to a point when I found myself looking for that person and when I had given up looking and In the end eventually in the unlikeliest of places I would find him.If i didn't wish to see him,I wouldn't.If I missed him,he would make an appearance or I'd hear his name unexpectedly while watching tv or someone would mention him.If I really wished to see him,I'd always be lucky.

Im still wondering why this happens because it never happened to me with anyone.I could wish for a friend to show up on my way to a class and that would rarely happen. With him it never fails to happen.

I just thought on sharing this since reading your chance encounters reminded me of all the people i've met that way and all those strange, interesting moments in my life ;) heh.

Have a good day :) and I hope to see the other stories soo :D

I just saw a comment you left on [livejournal.com profile] onetwomany's journal, and was intrigued enough to follow you here. You picked a quirky and welcoming exchange from Alice in Wonderland, so it doesn't surprise me that you seem to pay attention to moments that might pass those less observative or caring by. What a wonderful chance encounter, a little bit unique, I think, to Canadian urban centres, where all of us somehow gather from hither and yon.

Hi! Sorry, I didn’t reply earlier: I am quite overwhelmed with my new job this week, and all my time seemed to go away somewhere. I am glad you loved my story as much as I did, and I agree, that my life in Canada brought me more encounters like this one, then I had before – both because people’s make-up of Canadian cities, and because I pay more attention to them now. I am happy to know you. ;)

No worries about not responding earlier; my life's also a bit hectic right now, so I can relate. There are simply not enough hours in the day to do everything I'd like to and it's hard to keep up.

I am happy to know you. ;)

Likewise :-)

Oh, and congrats and good luck on the new job! It sounds like you're meeting some interesting people and the work is going to be challenging, so it's understandable that you're going on all cylinders right now.

Thank you! It really is quite interesting, and though I feel out of share – in legal matters, it is fun to catch up. Eats up my time terribly nevertheless. ;)
