Wild Anastasia Day
Yesterday was The Wild Anastasia Day - the date, celebrated once by 6 people; the date remembered now with the bittersweet aroma of
nostalgia.
It was a celebration of an unabashed silliness, joy of creating unimportant stuff, and friendship.
If you really want to know,
The story began eight years ago, after especially boring seminar at Moscow State University where we studied law. I and two of my friends for some reason (that got lost in the maze of memories)decided to write a script for a soap opera.
We came up with the title "Wild Anastasia: the fight for survival" - it was actually a combination of titles of two programs on TV at that time: one was a Mexican soap opera, another was a documentary about wildlife. This mix shows the main principles of our script: we mixed unmixables, included as much cliches as we could find, all the ridiculous, tried plot devices we could remember.
We had Tibetan monasteries, lost and found siblings and parents, KGB conspiracy, jungles, fallings from stairs, Colombian druglords, Formula 1 pilots, hidden treasures, romances, all kinds of mafia, books, full of arcane knowledge, franc-masons, tragic deaths, family secrets, rats, happy reunions, Harley Davidson motocycles...
We were spending hours in the library, laughing and writing.
We don't finish the story, of course. Real life can stand in the way of fun. But we set up the date December 13 as the Birthday of Wild Anastasia, our main character and spent this day in a cafe every year - the crazy group of 6 friends - contemplating how much fun it was to write, puzzling how our real life followed much weirder path.
We don't celebrate in in a cafe anymore - with me in Canada, and others just busy, but we still remember the story, the fun, the friendship that worth a lot and some more.
So, guys if you see it: Happy Wild Anastasia Day! Cheers! </lj-cut
