I am still reading the fairytales anthologies – with various success. Sometimes I get incredibly annoyed, and start systematizing all the vices of the retelling – too literal, to outlandish, too plain, too stylized, too politically correct, too gore, too Sleeping Beauty, too high-brow, too boring… But then I come across a tale that either of above (except for the last one,) and it is great fun.
Pure magic.
In fact, I think there was a fairytale exactly about it. Only with princes instead of stories. ;)
The last find: “Three Dwarves and 2000 Maniacs,” by Don Webb in the Black Swan, White Raven. Its cheerful insanity won me over.

Fun with names: Utah names. Apparently, it is a cultural thing, and I am not mocking cultures – even when they allow for names like Evol and Thermos. But my view on appropriate names is very discriminating, so I cannot judge. Still, funny.
