A question for anyone who knows Ontario: we are looking for a place to go for a day (half of a day, more likely).

Could you recommend something that
-is at a distance of around two hours drive from Toronto;
-is not a wilderness (ok, I am still thinking by BC standards)
-is pretty
-we could spend 4-6 hours (including dinner) there without being bored
-which means it has something to look at, walk, swim in, etc (swimming is optional, as it is an end of September)
-is not Niagara Falls

Thank you

I have never been to Toronto or its environs, so of course I have an opinion. I think you should consider the Brighton Applefest, about an hour and a half east of Toronto. There is lakeage and many apples and it probably smells good.

I make no guarantees about the Boring Factor. Or about anything, really.

The McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg is pretty good and Kleinburg is quite the cute town.

In the opposite direction I've had a good time with wine tours in and around Niagara-on-the-Lake (very different from Niagara Falls). The wineries and town have some excellent restaurants. There's the Shaw Festival there too if you're feeling in the mood for the-atre.

Stratford really isn't that far either as long as the traffic's not too bad. Tickets can be pricey though.

Let's see, Kingston's nice for walking around the historical downtown and then eating in a good restaurant. Plus you can stop at the Big Apple on the way and get pies.
